Increasing the Speed of a Mac
As your Mac gets older and starts to slow down, you may resign yourself to the fact that it is inevitable. While that is partly true, what you probably don’t know is that often it is possible to increase the speed of your Mac, and restore at least some of its performance to its previous levels.
Simply put there are several factors that could be responsible for your Mac slowing down, and the following steps will help to address the most common culprits:
Delete unnecessary files from your hard drive
If your Mac’s hard drive starts to get too full it will cause your Mac to slow down considerably, which is why it is important to delete any unnecessary ‘junk’ files periodically. While you could try to track down and delete all the logs, cache files, trash bins, and duplicate files manually – it is far easier to use Movavi Mac Cleaner as it will let you do so in a single click.
Check for and remove excess startup items
When your Mac boots up it automatically launches some apps – which can cause it to boot up more slowly and tax its resources. In the ‘System Preferences’ you can find a list of these startup items and remove anything that isn’t needed. Alternatively you will find them all listed under the ‘Startup Optimization’ tab in Movavi Mac Cleaner, and can manage them conveniently there.
Update OS X
Every new version of OS X fixes vulnerabilities and bugs while also providing performance optimizations. As a rule of thumb you should always make sure your version of OS X is current, and update it when a new version comes out.
Clear your desktop and app dock of clutter
The more clutter that is on your desktop and in the app dock, the slower your Mac will perform. Try to limit the apps on your dock to only those that you use most frequently, and move any files that are on your desktop to other locations instead.
Uninstall unused apps
Often older Macs tend to have lots of unused apps that have accumulated over time and can take up valuable space on your hard drive. Generally it is best to uninstall any apps you no longer use, and Movavi Mac Cleaner’s ‘Uninstaller’ feature will give you an easy way to do just that. Not only will it let you quickly remove apps, but it can also be used to delete native OS X apps that are normally difficult to remove, and will detect leftover files from other apps and remove them as well.
By taking these steps to speed up a Mac, you should notice a marked improvement sooner rather than later. As you can see Movavi Mac Cleaner will make it easy for you to give your Mac a boost, free up more space on your hard drive, and optimize its performance.
